Competency Management News-To-Use
| Webinar - Competency Management: Linking Individual
Performance and Organizational Goals |
 |
|
Christine (Chris) Hipple, Director of Workforce
Solutions for eLearning and competency management leader
Avilar, Inc., will host a complimentary webinar on one of the
HR industry’s fastest growing applications, competency
management. The webinar will outline the interlinking
relationships of organizational strategy, structure,
competency models and workforce development and is taking
place September 26th.
In addition to organizational strategy, the webinar
will also discuss subjects such as the combination of
learning, engagement and accountability that enables
individuals to transform competence to results, as well as the
role that competency management and training play in aligning
individual performance with organizational goals.
“Between my work as a practitioner and consultant,
and my participation in associations such as the American
Society for Training and Development (ASTD), I’ve seen a
growing interest in competency management,” says Chris.
“Unfortunately, the growing interest isn’t matched by
practical learning opportunities on the subject. This webinar
is developed to steer those practitioners interested in
competency management to the next step of their competency
management implementation journey.”
Chris’s nearly thirty years in proactive human
resource management makes her approach to competency
management both practical and conceptual. Examples of Chris’s
projects include a competency-based mentoring program and a
competency-based pay-for-performance program. “I believe there
has to be the right combination of aspiration and realism in
every competency management project,” says Chris. “With the
right balance the results can dramatically change workforce
development at any organization.”
In addition to leading competency management- focused
presentations, Chris contributes to the continued development
of Avilar’s competency management product, WebMentor Skills, and leads
a consortium of WebMentor Skills users. In the consortium, participants
receive guidance from Chris and other consultants, as well as
share their competency management implementation efforts with
the other participants.
The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, September 26th,
2006 at 1pm EST. To reserve a space in the webinar visit

The Essentials of Competency Management
Success
This article highlights the necessities of building a
successful, renewable competency management program. Each
aspect is discussed, from finding an applicable competency
model, the varied number of learning resources, Individual
Development Plans (IDPs) and finally ensuring the alignment of
competencies from the models with used learning
resources. For

Is HR a Part of Implementing Corporate Strategy?
The question this Workforce Management article raises
is, has HR made it to the corporate table? Based on a study
conducted with 4000 global leaders by author Theresa
Welbourne, HR management is one of the lowest “strategy
derailers” listed by the global leaders. Although this is
seemingly good news, HR executives found the news less than
positive because other factors they consider part of HR’s
realm, such as “Our past/habits”, “Company culture” and “The
way we work together” were all found as strong strategy
derailers. The HR executives see a disconnect between these
factors and HR and are worried that executives don’t
understand the width of their responsibilities. For

Managing Vendors: Suite or No Suite?
Suites of products are becoming more and more common
and as these suites pop up, so does the push to purchase them.
This article from CLO magazine raises issues with purchasing
multi-product learning solutions and gives advice to those
looking into the same venture. Wim Wetzel, director of
employee and organizational development at NEC Corp. of
America, gives several pieces of advise including, make sure
vendors give you concrete real- time examples of product use,
don’t just purchase a product from a vendor because you
already have one of their products, use your corporate
strategy to purchase a tool rather than use a tool to
construct strategy, and make sure your tool can meet your
needs. For

Avilar Partners with Capital Edge Learning to
Offer Premier Custom Courses with WebMentor LMS
Avilar added Capital Edge Learning to its reputable
list of partners this week. With the partnership, Avilar now
offers clients exceptional custom-built courses for its
learning management and competency management systems.
“With the addition of Capital Edge, Avilar offers an
efficient and direct way for customers and prospects to access
one of the industry’s leaders in custom course content,” says
Avilar CEO John Skowlund. “The partnership of a high-quality
learning management system like WebMentor LMS and superior
custom content by Capital Edge is a tremendous benefit to our
customers. We are proud to be in association with Capital
Edge.”
Avilar and Capital Edge have been working together
for several months and just recently signed a partnership
agreement. Capital Edge’s work with Avilar and Avilar clients
includes content development, technology integration and
consulting services. Under the agreement, each company can
offer one another’s products and services under their own
brand name. The two companies may also team together to handle
larger projects.
“We think Avilar provides outstanding web-based
competency management and learning solutions to a broad
spectrum of clients,” says David Loughran, CEO of Capital Edge
Learning. Capital Edge President Melanie Regan adds, “Our
partnership with Avilar gives us a tremendous competitive
advantage by providing our clients with access to the full
suite of WebMentor eLearning products and the competency
management product, WebMentor Skills.”
Capital Edge contacted Avilar after reading about the
growing eLearning and competency management company in an
industry publication. “After speaking with David and seeing
some samples of their custom course capabilities I was
confident a partnership agreement would strengthen both of our
companies and our customers,” says Skowlund. “We are proud to
now officially be in association with Capital Edge.”
